Game Wrap 7/2/2016: D'Backs 6 Giants 5

Three Giants pitchers combined to blow a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the 8'th inning and hand the D'Backs a come-from-behind win.  Key Lines:

Buster Posey- 1 for 2, 2 BB.  BA= .290.  Buster is quietly climbing toward the .300 BA mark.  .325 over his last 30 games, .319 for the month of June.

Brandon Crawford- 2 for 4, HR(8).  BA= .276.  Crawford is swinging a hot bat.  .393 over his last 7 games, .327 last 15 and .304 last 30.  .315 for the month of June.

Mac Williamson- 1 for 2, HR(3), BB.  BA= .234.  Mac's dinger was on the back of Crawford's and was a monster shot, estimated distance 460 ft.  He had a nice AB earlier in the game to put the ball in play which led to a throwing error by Jean Segura and a run.  Mac is hitting .375 over his last 7 games. He and Jarrett Parker are making a nice RF platoon right now.

Jeff Samardzija- 7.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 12/2.  ERA= 3.97.  Samardzija has some shaky moments but managed to pitch his way out of them and as you can see from the GO/AO kept the ball down in the zone much better.  He was sitting on a QS in the 8'th inning when he allowed a leadoff double to Michael Bourn who Kruk and Kuip mentioned has some ownage on Shark.  He then got the ever dangerous Goldy on a flyball to CF.  Jake Lamb who kills RHP's and already had 2 hits was coming up and Bochy made the correct call to bring in the lefty Osich to face him.

Josh Osich- 0.0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 0 K's.  ERA= 4.44.  Make no mistake, Osich was not brought in to pitch carefully to Jake Lamb.  He was brought in to get him out.  Instead, he threw 4 straight pitches out of the strike zone to put the tying run on base and bring the winning run to the plate.  In fairness, Osich has been much better in these situations than the other left option, Lopez, so Bochy made the right call. Osich just didn't execute this time.

Hunter Strickland- 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.00.  The first pitch Strickland threw was a breaking ball that started out on the outside corner then broke way off the plate.  Easy take. That pitch might be OK if you are ahead in the count an trying to get the batter to fish, but if you are going to try to pitch backward, you better get the breaking ball over for strike 1.  Strickland dug himself a hole.  Castillo, who has killed the Giants this year, sat on a FB middle-in, got one and crushed it.  Save blown, game lost.  It was the first dinger to a RH batter for Strickland since last August.
