Game Wrap 6/30/2015: Marlins 5 Giants 3

Maybe Buster Posey has figured out how to beat jet lag as he was the only Giant to not look like he was sleepwalking through a game that seemed to be frustratingly winnable.  Key Lines:

Buster Posey- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .303.  When Buster gets hot, he can carry a team for awhile.  The load was a bit too heavy in this one.

Ryan Vogelsong- 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.19.  Vogey's command was off through the first 3 innings and he appeared to be really angry at something through much of that time, whether that was himself or the umpire or something else was not clear.  The big blow came in the second inning when Dee Gordon split the OF's for a 3 run, inside-the-park HR that I have to admit was kind of fun to watch.  At least it would have been if you were a Marlins fan.  Vogey did settle down and get the game to the bullpen in the 7'th with a chance to win.  The bullpen allowed an insurance run and the Giants offense was not able to mount another significant rally.

The Loss left the Giants 1.5 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers who beat the D'Backs 6-4.  The Giants lead in the race for the second Wild Card playoff slot by 0.5 games over the Cubs.  If the season ended yesterday, the NL playoff configuration would be identical to last season.

Chris Heston tries to square the series tonight facing Dan Haren.

  1. that despite the injuries and some pitching issues and a makeshift of the giants are still in this thing....cant complain

baggs noted this and he is right, it makes no sense that the giants are waiting to stick timmeh and hudson on the dl....they are working with a short bench and could use one body and one pen arm...now

still dont understand why the bums gave up on gordon....speed kills and he has improved both his hitting and d and doesnt look like he will fade this season....but will not look a gift horse in the mouth

listened to the marlins feed and their booth guys aint half bad....they even made me laugh once, when cishek k'd susac and the pbp guy said, "cishek sold susak on the sinker, striking out susak" cute

  2. As long as the Giants are making roster moves, might be time to move Maxwell off as well. Hasn't added much value lately from an offensive standpoint. They need an upgrade in the OF. If Ford was on the 40 man I'd say give him a shot. Has some speed, plays decent defense and has some ML experience. Either way, need to improve the OF situation.

    1. Billy, Ford is unlikely to ever play by the cove again. Too much talent has surpassed him and our system is stacked with all kinds of OF. Parker is called up often, Williamson & other guy just arrived to Sac after promotion so they are now in line as well. OF arms @ the Belle have to be strong & accurate as we have one of MLB biggest OF.

Like the kid and his speed but I don't remember him having good arm to throw out runners @ home.

  3. Gordon's HR was amazing. I've seem some fast base runners in my time, like Ricky Henderson in his prime, and watching Gordon run those bases.... I don't think he gives an inch to anyone, current or past, in speed.
